Wow, it's hard to type!
1. Super jittery right now; didn't fall asleep until around 4:00 (I'm assuming, that was the last time I looked at the clock) and have had two espresso and feel like I'm going to fall out of my chair. Am not prepared for class. We have a huge event tomorrow and so not prepared for that either.

1a. Ahoy, stock market. You frighten me. And that's all I'll say because I spent hours yesterday on the phone with friends who work in finance, hedge funds, whatnot and listened to them freak out.

2.Was thinking of taking the sister to Lizzie Borden's house for her birthday weekend. We were going to do NYC, but definitely don't have the cash for that unless was crashing on someone's floor.

3. I feel horrible for the Mets and for all of my friends who are Mets fans. Postseason, you tend to crush souls. I both love and hate this about you.

4. Bruins lost to the Caps (and how fitting that Chris Bourque scored the winning goal) but went to a fantastic gathering that evening. And photos are quite hilarious. You can click here to see them, just click on the thumbnail of the photo on the right to move to the next one. Was fantastically out of commission on Sunday with a raging fever and more than a little tummy ache.

5. GO SIGN UP FOR OUR [info]geekfiction Food Fight Ficathon before I break some effin legs!

I read in the beginning of the year how the Red Sox were the new evil empire because they had the second biggest payroll. It turns out, the Tigers and Mets spent more money than the Red Sox. Both are staying home for the playoffs. If you look at teams 2-13, you see that the Tigers through the Phillies make for a pretty close range (140 mil to 100 mil) so it isn't like the Red Sox are spending so much more money than everyone else.

In the payroll standings, the number 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 11, and 12 teams are all staying home. 2/3rds of the big spenders failed to reach the playoffs. Money doesn't mean everything, especially given that the Yanks spent 210 million and finished in third place in their division.

Both the Yanks and the Mets have to wonder who to blame now. They shelled out big money for high-priced free agents. The Mets landed the biggest pitcher on the market in Santana, and the Yanks made a bevy of moves as per usual. Both parted ways with their managers (blaming the managers for past failures) and still couldn't get it done.

The Mets overpayed for the wrong guys just like the Yanks have done. The BoSox however have let prima-donnas walk, and they are defending their World Series title i the playoffs again. Maybe there is something to be said for that.

It should also be noted, that a lot of money is coming off the payroll next year (Schill and Manny making up a good chunk). I think Tek takes a pay cut, and it is feasible that the BoSox could be looking at a payroll less than 100 mil next season, or in the lower 100 range, knocking us out of the top 10 payrolls, unless we give a huge contract to Paps, like we should.

BTW...don't panic about the stock market. It'll be cool in the long run.
